PBGH is nationally recognized for its purchaser efforts to improve the quality of health care while moderating costs. Value-based purchasing means that we care equally about quality and cost. In fact, the coalition's very first project focused on quality. PBGH helped pioneer employee health plan satisfaction surveys a decade ago.
Today, our 45 major purchaser members represent approximately 3 million employees, retirees and their families and $3 billion in annual health care expenditures. PBGH now oversees a small business purchasing group that includes more than 9,500 of California's small businesses with 2 to 50 employees. Our large and small employers benefit from leveraged buying power, administrative efficiencies, standardized benefits and comparable performance information across health plans, physician groups and hospitals.
Every PBGH public and private sector large purchaser buys health care for at least 2,000 eligible employees in our service areas. Most of our member companies' workers are scattered throughout California and many are in multiple states. The small business program, Pacific Health Advantage, also offers health plan choice and access statewide.
PBGH is results-oriented and member-driven. We identify health care and business trends, assess the impact of those trends, and recommend practical steps to advance a common agenda.

PBGH Members Include Large and Small Employers
PBGH Works for Large Employers
To join PBGH's large business affiliate, the Negotiating Alliance, a purchaser must have at least 2,000 benefits-eligible employees in areas where PBGH provides services (currently, California and Arizona). Large member companies may not be in the health care industry including insurers, plans, hospitals, and consulting organizations. Public and private sector purchasers are welcome. Many members are headquartered within California, while others are located elsewhere, including Connecticut, Minnesota, and Texas.

In order to join Pacific Health Advantage, PBGH's small business affiliate, a company must employ between 2 and 50 workers in California.

Senior Manager, Quality Projects
We are looking for an individual to design, implement and manage complex data
collection and reporting projects that monitor the quality of care provided by and
economic efficiency of individual providers such as hospitals and physicians. This
individual will also serve as a guide for the translation, organization and communication
of project information to member companies, stakeholder partner organizations, and
California consumers. Our Senior Manager will view quality initiatives and projects from
the perspective of the overall PBGH mission, especially as they relate to accountability
for quality of care.
You must have five or more years of relevant health care experience and demonstrate a
depth of experience and success in obtaining critical data and information from and
promoting participation of individual, group and organization participation in quality
accountability and information projects and studies. You must demonstrate a mastery of
analytical tools including episode groupers such as ETG, severity adjustment models
such as APR-DRG, and regression analyses and you must be proficient in performing
complex analyses using large industry databases such as MEDPAR and OSHPD. A
Masters degree in biostatistics or equivalent field of study is preferred.
