Dedicated to the men, women, children and organizations who keep the historical and cultural heritage of the American Frontier alive through their LIVING HISTORY events, exhibitions, reenactments and performances of the OLD, WILD and WOOLY WEST
This site was last modified February 21, 2001. If you have visited us prior to that time please hit reload now.
Welcome to the Old West Living History Foundation . We are not an insurance company. We're a national/international
organization of living history enthusiasts & participants who celebrate the spirit & legends of the 1800's American Frontier.
We are men, women, children, merchants, craftspeople, reenactors, actors, film makers & event producers. We participate in private
& public functions, parades, Living History events, Old West theme parks, wild west stunt shows, stunt schools, Rendezvous, Pow Wows,
Wagon Trains, large reenactment groups & military unit activities, stunt shows, commercials, TV shows, films & major motion pictures.
We are an inclusive organization & we welcome all who are interested in Living History. We work to increase awareness in safety,
our historical heritage, the authenticity of our time period, wardrobe & historical presentations. We do this by setting good
examples and providing education through the promotion of events, fellowship and publications.
We began on faith, hope & a prayer in September, 1996 with one member... Dusty Webb. As of February 20, 2001, I am proud to
announce that we have registered over 6,500 members in 47 American States, Canadian Provinces, Wyhl, Germany, Kaitoke, New Zealand,
Sidney, Australia, Joppe, The Netherlands & London, England. As of March 1, 2001 we will be offering membership services to
the world. Please contact us regarding membership in Europe, Japan or other homelands on our great planet. We wish to extend a
hardy welcome to all.
On June 16, 17, 18, 2000 the OWLHF co-sponsoring through our members insurance coverage the Mid-America Battle Reenactment at
Wilson Creek (Springfield, Missouri). They had over 5,000 federal, confederate and civilian reenactors on the battlefield. This was
the largest Living History Reenactment in the year 2,000. We are proud to have been part of this Living History event.
Our goal is to preserve historical heritage, the pioneer spirit, the cultures of the indigenous people & the legends of the
American Frontier. Through our portrayal of historical events, living history unfolds a wealth of education and values. It was a
time of great exploration, personal risks, hardships and bountiful success. This was the day of the Native Americans, mountainmen,
pioneers, wagon trains, pony express, railroads, new settlements, hunters, sportsmen, soldiers, politicians, outlaws & lawmen.
There was much conflict in the Old West. Many men lived by the gun and died by the gun. Samuel Colt patented his revolver in 1835,
which changed the Frontier. The revolving six shooter was a new concept in firearms. Someone talking about Colt's revolvers was reported
to have said, 'God created man, but it was Sam Colt who made them equal.' Some referred to the new gun as 'Judge Colt and his jury of
six.' There was swift justice or injustice in the Old West.
We moved west and discovered a wealth of beauty & an abundance of resources in the American Frontier. Conflict erupted resulting
in war between brothers, good people & nations. Great people like Thomas Jefferson, Lewis & Clark, Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain,
Nellie Cashman, Susan B. Anthony, Catherine Beecher, & Buffalo Bill helped to explore, promote human rights, educate and define
this young and prosperous nation.
Other great men like Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Sitting Bull, Red Cloud, & the mighty Chieftains defended nations that
passed with history. These proud nations & their leaders lost their holdings but their history, the land, culture, wisdom and
people have survived. Emigrants came from all nations, religions and creeds to find peace, prosperity and freedom in America.
We are brown, yellow, red, black & white. We are man, woman, young & old. We come from every walk in life and we take
great pride in honoring our ancestors. We keep their spirit & legends alive through our participation in the living history of
the American Frontier.
To honor one's ancestors is to respect the past.
In honoring the past we are protecting the future.
Steve Goldstein (Big Nose Kate's) and Charlie One Horse.
Peace, health & prosperity be with you. Seize this day and maketh it thine own... Dusty Webb

The Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program in the United States provides protection against the loss of earnings as the result of retirement, death, or disability. The OASDI program consists of two separate parts that pay monthly benefits to workers and their families--Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) and Disability Insurance (DI). Research and Statistics Note No. 2000-02
This note uses data from the Modeling Income in the Near Term (MINT) project to estimate the distribution of zero-earnings years by gender, birth cohort, and level of lifetime earnings from 1951 to 1996. The analysis is focused mainly on zero-earnings years that fall within a worker's highest 35 years of earnings, because only these years are used in the calculation of benefits.

Are you looking through the records of a deceased friend or
relative for their life insurance policy? Are you sure there was a policy, or not sure you have ALL the
policies?
I'm sorry to say about the only way of finding out is to keep working on the
records left behind. Also, keep a sharp eye out for NEW letters from insurance companies, especially any bills. Contact close relatives and ask if your parents ever made any references to insurance.
Next, try to discover WHERE your parents were finding these insurance companies, for example, mail order solicitations, magazines, fraternal organizations, television ads, phone solicitations, then write or call companies doing similar solicitations.
What happens to life insurance benefits that go unclaimed? Life Insurance companies will not pay benefits
until they are notified of the death and a claim is made. It is estimated that more than
25% of all policy benefits go unpaid upon the death of the insured.
Worse, if those premiums stop,
heirs may well lose all rights to a settlement. Now, the good news is that
most companies will write to find out WHY the premiums are no longer being
paid. So, Go through those bills.
One widow didn't even realize
she had anything coming until she wrote to the insurance company to ask if she
could quit paying the premiums now; since her husband had died there was no need
for further coverage.
Check with the deceased's
banker, or the home insurer, to see if a life policy was mentioned to them, or
better yet, listed as an asset.
Check with the former employer
to see if perhaps there was group life insurance benefits to be collected.
For a fee, American Council of Life Insurers
(ACLI) will give you a print out of every policy bought by any given person --
as ascertained by their social Security Number. The phone number in Washington,
D.C. is (202) 624-2000.
If every
tip I've given you fails, you may well need the help of a professional. Click HERE to visit the only one
I know.
Please note: The best advice I can give for finding an OLD
insurance company or old policy is still to contact the state insurance commissioner of
origin... on my Resources page . Why?
because after (from two to seven) years the insurance company will turn over any monies due to
the heirs to the state that person lived in, and you CAN STILL CLAIM THE MONEY
-- if you can prove you are an heir!
What
do you say to a company
(after you find it)
that may owe you money?
Dear (Insurance Company) My name is Barbara D and my email address is
Gabbiebucks@aol.com My parents gave me an "Infantile Twenty-year Endowment policy" they have had for
me since 1958. Could you could put me in touch with the department I should begin talking to, or even give me a
web site to start off looking in?
I sure would be ever so very grateful.
Thank you
Barbara D
Don't suffer in silence
Don't buy insurance uninformed.
"I need advice on dealing with an insurance
company that is not representing me as the contract stipulates," has been a request
thrown at me fairly often.
Patient Advocate Foundation is a national
non-profit organization that serves as an active liaison between the patient and their insurer, employer and/or creditors to resolve insurance, job discrimination and/or debt crisis matters relative to their diagnosis through case managers, doctors and attorneys.
I (Marleen Roberts) am not a lawyer; my advice doesn't cost 2¢ and is worth
less than 90% of that amount on the open market. Furthermore, all my own suggestions below are predicated on an assumption that you are one of the good guys
in a white cap, not one of those still strapped up in a white strait jacket.
First, file an official complaint with your state insurance commissioner. Click
HERE for the page where the
address and phone number
is found. Hint: Near the bottom. Hint 2: Insurance
regulators are bound by law to investigate all consumer complaints that fall
under their jurisdiction.
Second: Write some good op-ed articles on the subject for publication on your statewide
papers. Hint: Op-Eds are simply letters to the editors.
Third, get your state district attorney involved, complaining about the treatment given to
you, and (if necessary) about the lack of action on the part of the state insurance
commissioner. That last effort works best if they are of different political persuasions.
Fourth, invite all of your friends to write the company with one of two
messages: a)
"I'm canceling my policy because of the way you have treated Joy in this
situation."
or, b) "I'm sure glad I didn't listen to Joy when s/he suggested that I
sign up for protection with your company."
Either way, add that the (writer of the
letter) fully intends to make all acquaintances well aware of the conduct of said company.
Fifth, go to the FREE
ADVERTISING opportunities. Use them to post ads all over
the web and tell your side of the affair.
Sixth, get on the newsgroups and use your signature file to assure the whole wide world
that you are willing to give your testimony to anyone else needing to address bad
treatment from said company.
Seventh, Start a massive
class action lawsuit that asks the courts to force the insurer to repay all
the money they have gained from their obscene practices.
Eighth ASK everyone you talk to how you can persecute this company or
embarrass them any further.

The
Effects Of Lapsing Your Life Insurance Policy Buying
something tangible - a shirt for example -
is usually not a stressful
decision. Either you like it or you don't. And you can always take it back. Buying
a life insurance policy, however, is a different story.
Once you sign a contract, you
may only have a few days to change your mind and back
out of the deal, or no time at all. If
a few weeks, months, or years go by and you find you
don't want the policy anymore, you have
the option of lapsing it. However, if you do this often
enough, you could suffer some
consequences. "You
might have a plausible explanation" as to why you have
so many lapsed policies, says
Lynn Patterson, chief underwriter at Zurich Kemper
Life Insurance Co. "But it had better be
a good one." Why Lapse Your Policy? A
life insurance policy lapses - or cancels itself
- when you stop paying premiums
on it. If you have a whole life insurance policy that
has accumulated cash value, the cash
value, the cash value is drained to pay your premiums
until it runs out, and then the policy
lapses. There
are many reasons why someone may lapse a policy. He
may feel he is paying too much for
insurance, so he'll buy one at a better rate and lapse
the old one. If he has a whole life
policy, he may be unsatisfied with the amount of cash
value he is accumulating, so he'll
lapse it and look for another policy with a rosier financial picture. Some
insurance companies don't care. Primercia Life Insurance
Co., for example, does not
even ask about previous policies on the application.
"It doesn't come into play at all,"
says Mark Supic, a spokesperson for Primerica. "We
would have no way of knowing what the
person's [lapse] history was." At
Life Insurance Co., you won't be rejected
for having a high number of lapses,
but you may have to pay your premiums in one annual
payment rather than the more flexible
option of paying monthly, says Steve Zitney, an underwriting
consultant in 's life
and health department. That's because a high number
of lapses may indicate financial
instability, and the insurer wants to know that a full year's premium will be paid. Yet
other insurance companies may reject your application
if you have had a high number of
policy lapses. Some insurers may think you'll leave
them for a better deal at the drop of a
hat. They may think you are financially strapped and
have a hard time paying your premium
bills. Some may even think you're involved in a scam
with your agent in which you're getting
a kickback on the agent's commission. David
Potter, a spokesperson at Hartford Life Insurance Co.,
says that if an applicant has a
high number of policy lapses, the company would look
for the reasons behind them. If a
person failed to pay premiums on several policies,
he would likely be denied insurance. But
if the person was a past victim of churning -
a process where an agent uses the cash
value in an old policy to replace it with a new one
- his application would more likely
be accepted because the lapses were prompted by illegally mishandled policies. Patterson,
of Zurich Kemper Life Insurance Co., says that a person
may be rejected for life
insurance by his company due to a high number of policy
lapses, but it's rare. He says that
if an applicant had two lapses in three years, or perhaps
three lapses in five years, it
would be cause for alarm. And if the lapses were policies
with large death benefits, there's
an even greater chance Zurich Kemper would reject the
applications. That's because, in most
cases, agents' commissions are paid as a percentage
of the first year premium. So the
greater the death benefit, the higher the premium -
and the higher the agent
commission. An agent's life insurance commission can
be more than 50 percent of the first
year's premium, so the insurer has to spend money to
insure the customer but may never
realize any financial gain. For
example, Patterson recalls one case where a customer
took out a $2 million policy with
Zurich in 1993 and lapsed it in 1995. He took out another
$2 million policy in 1995 with
another insurer, and lapsed it in 1997. He then went
to a third insurer and took out a $2
million policy in 1997. He took out another $2 million
in 1998 with the same insurer. When
he went to Zurich again in 1999 and applied for a $4
million policy, the company rejected
his application. "It's
not a profitable piece of business," Patterson explains.
"Nobody's making any money on
this guy, except for the agent." Watch
Out for "Rebating" If
an agent approaches you about giving you a chunk of
his commission if you agree to lapse
your policy and apply for a new one, watch out. That's
a practice called "rebating" and it's
illegal in all states except for Florida and California,
according to Jack Dolan, a
spokesperson for the American Council of Life Insurers.
Rebating applies to any sales
practice in which an agent entices a customer to buy
an insurance product by giving him or
her part of the commission. Rick
Sabo of Money Concepts International in Gibsonia, Penn.,
a former agent with
Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. who is now a consultant
to policyholders and attorneys in
insurance lawsuits, says that rebating is extremely
rare. And even if agents convince a
person to lapse an old policy, the customer may not realize what they are doing, he says. Randy
McConnell, a spokesperson for the Missouri Department
of Insurance also says that
rebating is much rarer than other forms of insurance
fraud, such as churning. He says that
if an agent wants to illegally mishandle a policy,
they have greater incentive to do it on
their own rather than team up with the insured because
they will not have to split the
commission. Rebating "is not a high volume kind of thing," he says. Lisa
Santucci, a senior attorney with the Florida Department
of Insurance, receives a number
of inquiries from agents and insurance companies asking
if they can give a cash bonus to a
customer who buys a policy or annuity from them. But
she has not seen any cases where an
agent and a customer "teamed up" to churn a policy
and split the commission on the new
policy. Buy It Once - But Do Your Homework Most
life insurance experts will tell you to buy life insurance
when you're young since it's
more expensive as you grow older. The potential hazards
you face in the future for lapsing
policies make a strong argument to buy the right policy once,
and review your
coverage needs as your life changes. Otherwise, you
and your beneficiaries could suffer in
the future. By
